The word antioxidant has become quite a buzzword these days, and not without good reason. Antioxidants are substances in your body that protect your cells. You see, each living cell in your body (and you have over 70 trillion of them), needs energy in order to function. To generate this energy, a lot of very complex chemical processes happen within the cell. These processes were first identified by Dr Krebs in the early part of the last century. The bottom line is that during the production of energy in your body, certain harmful substances are released. These substances are known as free radicals and they have the potential to damage and even kill the cell. The way the cell deals with these free radicals, is to neutralise them with what we have come to know as antioxidants. So the bottom line is, that if you don’t have enough antioxidants in your body, then you increase the likelihood of cells dying.

Even more to the point, you dramatically increase the risk of becoming sick and chronically ill, as your immune system, like every other system in your body, is dependent on your cells working efficiently. So antioxidants are substances in your body that protect your cells from damage, and since the basic building block of your body is the cell, it makes logical sense to keep each cell as healthy as possible.

So the big question is, what are antioxidants and where do they come from?

Logically, if antioxidants are that critical to the survival of your physical body, our creator would have put them in a place where we can easily get them. So it may not surprise you to find that the greatest source of antioxidants is food. Foods that are richest in antioxidants are fresh vegetables and fresh fruits. What is really interesting is that every different fruit has its own special type of antioxidant.

Today, there are many products on the market making wonderful claims regarding health benefits. Undoubtedly, many of them are very useful but you need to be aware that there are no cure-alls. It is important to also take into account that fact that we are so uniquely individual, that a food that is good for you, may not in fact be beneficial to me. This is perhaps the greatest challenge when it comes to deciding what are the best supplements for you. The truth is that the product that changed your friend’s life may hold no benefit for you at all.

There is a solution to this dilemma however. It is called NHD, a powerful and simple technique that you can learn, that can help you to identify precisely what foods and/or supplements are good for you. It takes only a short time to learn the technique and it will empower you for the rest of your life. For more information have a look at the free preview video about NHD on this website .

In my next post, we will take a look at what antioxidants are the most important and where they come from.
